A Bit About Karen
- 30 years electronics manufacturing experience
- Became World Class Lean Manufacturing expert through 1990s and 2000s - designed and implemented (and hired and trained 250 staff for 24/7 operation) a lean factory in Aurora in 1999 to make Nokia Mobile Phones — at 11 second take time and industry-leading quality levels from Canada, made us more cost-competitive than Mexico. Nokia pulled their business out of Mexico and into our plant in Aurora Ontario. Canada can compete for manufacturing- especially now with additive mfg tech. We can do this now for Grant’s projects and new companies.
- Left global roles of Celestica to have baby near age 40 (flying to Asia wasn’t good idea to continue), and became a startup- one of the first Startups at MaRS, 2009-2013.
- Learned about the Ontario Startup Ecosystem and worked with the Regional Innovation Centres (RICs) as they grew like MaRS, Communitech, Innovation Factory, and ventureLAB.
- Learned about what resources are available to be leveraged.
- Also worked with mid-size Electronics Manufacturing firms and Engineering firms for a few years, so I know what supply-chain resources are available at good price points.
Looking forward to leveraging all this for opportunities to work together with you!
