A Bit About Andrew
Andrew Miller, Ph.D is a consultant, advisor, and speaker on innovative mobility and smart cities. He has 20 years of experience spanning academia; Canadian government at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels; and private-sector advisory.
Andrew was formerly the Toronto mobility lead for Sidewalk Labs, Google's smart-city firm, where he led development of innovative mobility systems for a proposed "city of the future" on the Toronto waterfront. Andrew has served as an invited expert on automated driving, and the future of mobility generally, to global audiences, including:
· the senior leadership of General Motors;
· federal and provincial regulators in Canada;
· the Urban Development Institute of Australia;
· Woven, Toyota’s smart-city arm; and
· Japan's Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
As a private consultant, his clients have included governments, land developers, and one international airport.
Andrew is the co-author of the white paper The Driverless Endgame: Policy and Regulation for Automated Driving, a milestone in consideration of how to bring automated driving to our streets expeditiously but safely.
He is currently, with his co-authors, preparing the second edition of The End of Driving(forthcoming from Elsevier) the revised and expanded version of a book on the opportunities for, and implications of, driverless vehicles for cities.
Andrew sits on the boards of a variety of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations that aim to improve mobility networks in the greater Toronto area. He holds a BA from McGill University, an MA from Yale University, and a PhD from Johns Hopkins University. He's also fun at parties.
